The Ark Epoxy Kit includes the epoxy and application tools needed for building canoes, kayaks and small boats in the wood strip epoxy style: 1 ½ gallons of ARK 2:1 epoxy resin with ¾ gallon of ARK Medium Hardener, plus a tray, roller, foam covers, brush, squeegee, measuring containers and gloves. Cured with the included Medium hardener, the epoxy reaches 7,600+ psi tensile and 14,300+ psi flexural strength.

Package Includes

  • ARK Epoxy Resin 1 ½ gallons x 1
  • ARK Hardener Medium ¾ gallon x 1
  • 9" metal tray x 1
  • 7" cage style roller frame x 1
  • 7" phenolic core foam rollers x 5
  • 2" double thick chip brush x 1
  • 4" x 6" plastic squeegee x 1
  • 1 quart plastic measuring containers x 2
  • Latex gloves x 5 pairs

Fiberglassing Highlights (6 oz cloth)

  • Lay the cloth on dry and smooth it out carefully with your hands; do not pull.
  • Starting from the center and working towards the ends, roll or brush on enough epoxy to saturate the cloth, working out wrinkles as you go.
  • Use a plastic spreader or squeegee to remove excess resin, or you will get runs.
  • Apply a second and third coat as soon as the previous coat has gelled, between 2 and 6 hours.
  • Sand the next day or when hard, and allow a full cure (2–7 days at 22 °C / 71 °F) before painting or varnishing.

Typical lab values for ARK Epoxy Resin cured with the Medium Hardener included in this kit. These are not specifications. Liquid properties are measured at 25 °C. Gel time is a lab test of a 150 g mass in the cup, not working time on the job. Metric values are converted from psi.

Safety and storage: ARK Epoxy Resin (Part A) is labelled WARNING: harmful if swallowed; causes skin irritation and serious eye irritation; may cause an allergic skin reaction. ARK Hardeners (Part B: Slow, Medium and Fast) are labelled DANGER: causes severe skin burns and eye damage; may be corrosive to metals; may cause allergy or asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties if inhaled; may cause an allergic skin reaction; may cause damage to organs (lungs, kidneys) through prolonged or repeated exposure. Vapours and mists are corrosive to the respiratory tract. Wear chemical-resistant (nitrile) gloves, chemical splash goggles (no contact lenses) and long sleeves, and work in a well-ventilated area; do not breathe vapours or mists, and use an approved respirator if ventilation is inadequate. Clean epoxy off skin with soap and water, never solvents. Store at room temperature in the original, tightly closed containers, upright and off concrete floors; keep hardeners locked up and away from metals; do not freeze.
